Visit The Book Fair - Things To Do In Chennai #5

Hi, Folks,

If you are in Chennai right now, then what you must be doing is visiting the Book Fair. The Chennai/Madras Book Fair started as early as in 1977. It, generally, is an annual event that happens every year. And, for past few months it is happening in YMCA Grounds, Nandanam. However, this year, the Chennai Book Fair is happening in The Island Grounds, Chennai. It started on June 1, 2016 and it will go on till June 13, 2016. There are 3 more days for the book fair to go, so better late than never, do visit the book fair.

The tickets are priced at Rs. 10 and the season tickets (ticket for the whole 13 days) are available at Rs. 50. With more than 2000 stalls put across, Chennai Book Fair is one of the biggest book fairs in the country. For a bookaholic like me, going to a book fair is an heavenly affair. I feel so good and nice being amidst books.

One might ask why would one have to go to a book fair rather than buying through Amazon or Flipkart. The reason is very simple. To start with, book fair has both Indian as well as International authors' books. It has a collection of all off-beat books that are either not available online or in out-of-stock. Also, most Tamizh and other language books are not available online. With direct publisher stalls, you can be sure of getting books here.

I visit the book fair every year, and last year I spent a whooping amount of 5000 INR to buy a variety of books. I, in fact, found few rare book collections there. With my TBR already being huge, I got a few more books this year. Most of the publishers give 10-50% discount on their books. Also, classics like Ponniyin Selvan are available at huge discounts.

My favorite reason to visit book fairs is that I can touch and feel the book before buying it. Also, box sets are available for a lot of discounts in the book fair. This year book fair is special to me because, one of my co-authored novels, After The Floods, is available for sale in the book fair at stall nos. 350, 351, 442 and 443. If you think the book is worth a buy, then do buy it.

Have you visited the book fair? What are your experiences at the book fair?

~With lots of books in hand,
